Top performance, but good luck somewhere in a valley... Triumph in the Euro Fourcross Series and bronze in the World Cup at the beginning of June on a British ground belong among the top events of the season. Then the bike wandering sets out for Austrian Leogang. Pits of the bike-park baking in the sun were pleasantly refreshed by waterfall from the roof of the adjacent hotel on the first day of Michael’s training. In the qualification Michal goes in his unique track and ... wins! But on the day of the race we are back in old, rusty rails. Whispering of the waterfall was replaced by rain drumming on the roof of the Airstream. Change tires; put plastic raincoats on, the D day is here! The number of rivals is decreasing with increasing quantity of mud and Michael goes in the quarter-final. Suddenly, there is a “torpedo manoeuvre” of the comedian Cédric and instead of the comfortable first place there is a pursuit ride for advance to semi-final. But it ends with a terrible fall and the way to podium turns again more in the direction to a hospital... Fortunately, the consequences are not as serious as could be, so it is high time to leave the mountain track of races and air the AGang Rocknrolla without any stress on well-known Prague’s spots in Tocna and in trails in Modrany. “Next time, I take a bag and go to play golf” – it was Michael’s reaction to endless hours of waiting for training in the long-winded program of the World Cup. Ford F350 at the head followed by another American classic – unmistakable Airstream caravan. Even many a trucker at a filling station would amazedly raised his eyebrows… Then, the Czech team started a big nonstop barbecue in pits. When the traditional host of the World Cup Cross Country Series added also fourcross in the program last year it showed to be an excellent idea. And Michal enjoyed the whole night show before thousands of keen fans to the finish. His third place splendidly topped the successful premiere of the new team. A short stop at the Slim Grafix and a discussion about the new helmet of Michal’s fellow-traveller on his journey to Maribor, and the second round of the World Cup in fourcross may start. Endless downpour, bottomless mud, and fall in the second bend of the first ride... This is a short summary of the Slovenian stop on the journey of the fourcross circus, but it was only a part of the true. In the end, the disappointment over the result was drowned by the unexpected win of the mentioned fellow-traveller, matador of World tracks, Michal Maroši. Prokop on a four-wheeler, Marosi on his motorbike – after return from the Slovenian mud bath both Michals set out together to a wild countryside of the former military area of the Soviet army near Milovice with their motor and pedal toys to relax after the hectic race program. In short, bike is always the first concern, no matter if it relates to races or to an ordinary free day. The two BMX races in Florida confirmed that old problems were back again and so, cont...rary to the plan, the camera of Rob Trnka aimed at a sterile environment of the rehabilitation clinic Malvazinky instead of the dust of races... But first, we stop in 9395 Bikes, the kingdom of bike-epicures, which is dominated by dexterous hands and incessant doses of jokes of Dlouhan, the tallest of all the mechanics there. In this place Michal’s new machines come into world with the AGang name before each season. Two weeks were left until the first part of the World Cup in Belgian Houffalize and Michal had to watch the opening race of the Czech Cup and the premiere happening Euro Fourcross Series in the home track Polis.13 only as a spectator. But in the end he succumbed to temptation and in the evening he took his place at the start for training at least for a while. The double world champion has found an amazing place for the last days for preparations before the proper start of the main season in Krusne hory on the fourcross track in Kraslice and on surrounding trails. After several weeks spent in his second home Michal returned from California and just a little later he swapped twelve hours spent in plane for a half-day behind the wheel on his journey to the sun of the South France. The perfectly maintained track in Sainte Maxime in French Riviera becomes Mecca of European BMXers who visit it more and more frequently in winter months. It is an ideal place for the last testing of equipment before the new season. The part of the training including for example sprints against timekeeping, which is very routine, becomes by far bearable in such an environment. The permanent struggle for survival on damaged Czech roads is replaced by a travail set in amazing scenery some thirteen hundred kilometres to the south. After months of monotonous séances in sweaty gym, at last there is a time for fresh air, pedals, handlebars, and dirt. Especially, when there is the option to get away for a while from the duties to the nearby dirt paradise hidden in the forest in Peynier.
