The summertime event was held up at 7,000-feet in the Camp of Champions park on the Blackcomb glacier and featured a massive 75-foot gap jump. The event featured 40 riders going for a piece of the $50,000 prize purse and 850 TTR ranking points. It was an all-Canadian podium and Sebastien Toutant (CAN) took the top spot making him $20,000 richer. Toutant also secured an automatic invite to the Billabong Air & Style Innsbruck. All the riders were pulling off some impressive tricks all day and it came down to a double cork 1260 race for the podium with all three riders doing different variations of the trick. Toutant won the first place podium spot with a flawless Cab 1260 double cork and had this to say about his win, “Winning the first 5Star TTR big air contest was just amazing, it was an epic final and it’s sick because I’ll be leading in the TTR ranking going down to New Zealand in August.” Coming in second place behind Toutant and winning $15,000 was Matts Kulisek (CAN) who landed a backside 1260 double cork and Mark McMorris (CAN) took third place earning $10,000 for his frontside 1260 double cork. Other notable mentions include Gjermund Braaten (NOR) who also stomped a backside 1260 double cork to take fourth place and Chas Guldemond (USA) who landed a frontside 1260 for fifth place. Yes, it is summertime in Canada but there is plenty of snow hanging around up on the Blackcomb glacier which plays host to the legendary Camp of Champions (www.campofchampions.com). Today, June 25th, was the first day of camp so there were tons of kids heading up to shred the park in the summer sun. Practice for the Ante Up main event was also happening with some heavy hitters sessioning the 75+foot gap-jump making for a pretty sweet first day up on the glacier. Chas Guldemond, Seb Toots, Mark McMorris and Scotty Lago were all looking pretty solid, especially since some of these guys haven’t been on snow for a little while. Chas busted out a smooth backside 10 double cork with a double poke which turned some heads. Scotty Lago was throwing some back sevens and front tens with his signature style. In total there were 30 riders in the semifinals and it quickly became clear that that the standard of the finals would be sick! The semifinals were in a 1hrs 30min session and rider’s worth mention was the young gun Sven Thorgren who threw down a huge crazy double chuck flip on the corner! Zebastian Landmark and Ton Ton Holland was two other riders worth mentioning with their big stylish riding and Zebastians huge double flips on the kicker. The finals were held in the afternoon. After a two run final with the best run counting it was the up and coming youngster Niklas Mattsson how performed a solid run including a BS double cork 10 which gave him the first place and 10.000 US dollars. The second place went to Kevin Bäckström and third place to Ludwig Leijkner. In the TTR 3Star for girls there was a tight battle for the podium places but in the end it was Cissi Cavretti who took the top spot. Overall the event has been a huge success with happy faces everywhere! Now it´s time for the riders to celebrate with the huge ending party featuring a live concert with Looptroop Rockers and DJ Kid Sid. Among the Groms, born after 1995, Tim Kevin Ravnyak from Slovenia resulted the best boy, and Augustinova Diana from Czech Republic the best girl. This is the second qualification stop of the season and was held in blistering sun and -2 degrees in Funäsdalen`s perfect snowpark! More than 30 riders had showed up to fight for the money, TTR points, loads of prizes and of course the Semi final spot in Piststilen by Rip Curl presented by Skullcandy -Ramundberget 27/4-2/5. In the TTR 1-star snowboard event it was super high standard and we saw for ex sw Double back flips among other tech tricks. The judges with pro snowboarder Jonathan Nilsson as main judge had a hard time to pick the riders for the Final but in the end following 6 riders were picked to battle for the podium spots: Blayze Bramwell, Anton Bilare, Mats Frisk, Matteus Lestage-König, Nils Arvidsson, Måns Hedberg. The riders in the final had 2 runs eash to impress the judges and the one who impressed them the most with a super solid riding was Blayze Bramwell who took the 1st place. Blayze who also won Piststilen By Rip Curl Presented by Skullcandy in Ramundberget 2008 left Funäsdalen with 3000 SEK, a couple of fresh TTR points and a ticket to the Semi Finals in Ramundberget! Anton Bilare ended up in 2nd place and Matteus Lestage-König in 3rd.
